How is the campaign to get WB to show us the report going?

Our partners at Walk Free recently sent letters to Warner Bros’ CEO and Head of Consumer Products as well as to the CEO of Behr Chocolates (the manufacturers of the frogs). They didn’t get a response from any of them by their established deadline so they’re about to publicly launch their campaign.

We’ll be jumping on board with that this summer and hopefully having other ways for everyone to get involved to make all Harry Potter chocolate Fair Trade!

In the mean time, you can still sign and share the Show Us The Report petition.

The Harry Potter Alliance’s annual book drive has helped spread literacy and build libraries around the world. This year we are partnered with Read Indeed, a literacy organization founded by made-of-awesome twelve year-old Maria Keller. At the Quidditch World Cup in April, the HPA and the International Quidditch Association collected 580 books for Just 1 Book, an organization started by a 10-year old girl that distributes books around nearby Orlando, FL.

The HPA’s Winter Park chapter, the Tri-Wizards, was on hand to help with collecting the books.

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of homosexuality being removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO).

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). This day “highlights that in reality it is homophobia that is shameful and must be deconstructed in its social logic and fought against openly.”

According to Stonewall, one in five lesbian and gay people have experienced a homophobic hate crime or incident in the last three years.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is expected to sign into law a bill that would add gender identity and expression as protected classes under the state’s hate crimes law.

The state assembly passed the legislation 30-11 on Tuesday, and the senate passed it nearly unanimously last month.

We’ve been talking about marriage equality a lot lately, but the states are stepping up in all kinds of ways for gender and sexual equality. Ten points to Gryffindor, Nevada!

You guys. The bill that is inclusive and protective of people that are often viewed as outcasts should obviously mean ten points to Hufflepuff.

Alright one vote for Hufflepuff. We’re officially taking suggestions for which house Nevada and all the other US states (and any countries) would be in.

I would say any state that votes for a bill like this is in the House of Awesome. because the Sorting Hat told us that we shouldn’t be dividing ourselves in times of darkness. united we stand, divided we fall. collectively, Hogwarts is the House of Awesome. therefore, states that unite everyone under equality are part of the House of Awesome.
