Pop quiz!
Andrew Slack is— a) one cool dude b) possibly coming to a city near you c) both a and b If your answer is also the first letter in Hermione’s sort-of-cat’s name, then you’re right. Ten points to the House of Awesome. Andrew, HPA co-founder and executive director, is going on a sort-of-tour, and going to any of the stops near you would definitely put some more magic and...

Chocolate, child labor, and magic.
We’ve said it ad nauseum: we will not tolerate child labor in Harry’s name. Too often, though, leaving matters at their most basic names deprives people of the truth behind the noun, the horrors embodied by those two words. It’s never pleasant to hear, but it needs to be heard. Here are a few basics: Children are taken from their homes and sold to cocoa farmers. These children...

Let's talk about fair trade.
Benefits: Fair labor conditions, fair price, direct trade, community development, environmental sustainability, and lots more. In our Not in Harry’s Name campaign, we want to make sure that our chocolate frogs don’t come as a result of child slavery, something that does happen and something that Warner Bros. hasn’t done anything to correct. Certifiable: Coffee, tea, herbs,...

The myHogwarts beta questions!
During the 2011 Accio Books, we fought the Illiteracy Horcrux by donating books and building the Imagine Better library, a library built by the HPA for the new Bedford-Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School in New York City.  We were able to donate 9,283 books to the library, how many books in total were donated during that year?

WatchWatch
Chocolate’s Child Slaves is a heart-wrenching exposé about modern day slavery and child labor. These children work to harvest cacao all day long but most of them have never even tasted chocolate. This is what we are fighting to end. How can the big companies see this and think that the end justify the means with their products? Using children who have been ripped from their families,...

How would internet censorship affect you?
In large part, today is about really putting ourselves in a position where our daily life becomes one without access to the internet. So imagine today’s blackouts without the underlying cause, not temporary and spanning across every site instead of just the ones that participate in protests. What’s the biggest way your daily life would change? For us here at the Harry Potter...

Just for today, imagine the worst.
Actually, it won’t take much imagining, since some colossally important websites are blacking themselves out today in protest of what could very well become our future. Ever read any of those dystopian books that are becoming popular as of late? Like, you know: (The Hunger Games, for anyone unfamiliar with the trailer that’s from) Or even something older, like Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 or...
